To make a long story short, I forgot my Android mobile in the Airport security flying home for christmas. Luckily the staff had discovered my phone, and I got it back arriving home yesterday. Unfortunately the staff had tried to access my phone, hence getting to many pattern unlock attempts.

Safely back in my hands, to unlock it again, my phone asked me to enter my Google Account username and password. But apparently there’s a bug here, so my valid information entered didn’t do squat! Rather annoying to stare at your screen still being able to see people texting you, but not being able to answer.

So what to do next?
If you also have the 2 step verification on your Google account, then here is what helped me get back in:

1. Log in to your Google account on your computer.

2. Choose “Account Overview” in the menu.

3. Under Security you’ll see a functionality called “Authorizing applications & sites”. Choose “Edit” here.

4. You’ll now have to login again to verify your Google Account again as an extra security feature.

5. After verification you’ll see all your connected apps, sites etc. on the “My Account” page.
Under “Application-specific passwords”, you’ll be able to create a new onetime password code for your mobile:

Write e.g. My Mobile and hit “Create password”. You should now see a 16 letter unique code in a yellow field. You use this code to open your Android. Enter this 16 letter code as a password to your Google account on the mobile screen, and you’ll be prompted to enter a new pattern code. After you’ve done this, you’re back in.
